King Obama Reigns……

When I heard that it has been projected that Barack Obama will be President-elect, I was elated. Well, elated is too weak of a word..I can’t describe how I felt. I was in bed watching the results stream in online. When I heard the news, I sat back and cried. I could think of nothing but my people who where hung. I saw images of my ancestors hung from trees and then King Obama’s face would flash through. I cried.

However, this blog isn’t about that, its about the pre-president elect attitudes……

So, as you all can see, I received a lot of flack for my blog post that states if black folk wanted to vote for Barack because of his ethnicity, there’s nothing wrong with that….nevertheless, this moment in history is historic for one reason only, and that is because Barack is black.

Let me start off by first saying thatI VOTED FOR BARACK BECAUSE HE IS BLACK. I identify with him, he looks like me, and I personally never felt closer than I do now to a president; someone I will probably never meet. I don’t feel ashamed for my reasonings; however, it baffled me that many people, including black folks, said that you shouldn’t vote for him because of the color of his skin, that it should come secondary.

But…

What has the world been concentrating on? He is the FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT, not that he is the democratic president elect. Radio stations wouldn’t have campaigned as strongly as they did if Barack was white. Constituents wouldn’t have campaigned as passionately as they did if he were white. Brother Powell wouldn’t have had tears in his eyes if he were white and Brother Jesse Jackson wouldn’t have wept if he were white. I think A LOT of people including, white, black, puerto rican, asian, indian, etc voted for him because of Barack’s ethnicity, but don’t want to admit it. They don’t want to argue why they voted nor do they want people to assume that because they are a person of color, they would automatically vote for Barack.

Personally, I didn’t care about that. If you assume because I was black that I was going to vote for Barack, that is an assumption that I am not ashamed to received. Assume that about me, I don’t give a shit.
